Overview
DermScope is a single-user iOS app for photographing and measuring skin lesions over time, developed by Dalton Driscoll. This policy explains what data the app does and does not collect.
Data We Do Not Collect
The developer does not collect, transmit, or share your personal or health information. Specifically:
- No account or login required
- No names, email addresses, or contact information collected by the app
- No location data collected
- No device identifiers collected or transmitted to the developer
- No analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs included
- No third-party tracking of any kind
- No photos, measurements, notes, or subject information are transmitted. An internet connection is used only for Apple StoreKit subscription products, purchases, entitlement verification, and Restore Purchases.
Data Stored on Your Device
DermScope stores the following locally, in the app's private, encrypted storage area:
- Photos taken for lesion documentation and measurement
- Measurement values, contour data, and capture metadata derived from those photos
- Subject and lesion labels that you enter yourself (the app only prompts for an initials or local code, not a full identity)
- Optional notes you add to a lesion record
- Small entitlement flags stored in the iOS Keychain so grandfathered and prior premium access can be preserved. These flags contain no photos, measurements, notes, contact information, or user profile.
Photo and measurement files are written with iOS file protection
(completeUnlessOpen) and are excluded from iCloud and iTunes/Finder backups.
The developer cannot access this health documentation. Deleting it in the app or uninstalling
DermScope removes the locally stored subjects, spots, photos, measurements, notes, and contour
files. Small Keychain entitlement flags may remain so paid or grandfathered access can be
restored after reinstalling.
Subscriptions and Apple StoreKit
DermScope uses Apple's native StoreKit to display subscription options, process purchases, verify subscription access, and restore purchases. These interactions are handled by Apple under Apple's App Store privacy practices. DermScope has no developer-operated purchase server and does not send App Store transaction data, health documentation, or device identifiers to the developer. StoreKit may require an internet connection.
Permissions
DermScope requests the following iOS permission:
- Camera — used to photograph lesions for local documentation and measurement only. Photos are saved to the app's private storage, not your general Photos library, and are never uploaded anywhere.
No other protected-resource permissions, such as microphone, contacts, or location, are requested.
Sharing and Export
Reports, reference cards, and other materials leave the app only when you explicitly choose to share or export them, using the share sheet you control. DermScope never uploads or transmits data automatically.
Deleting Your Data
You can delete individual subjects, lesions, or measurement photos at any time from within the app. Settings also provides an option to permanently delete locally stored subjects, spots, photos, measurements, notes, and contour files. Uninstalling DermScope removes that health documentation. Small Keychain entitlement flags may remain so paid or grandfathered access can be restored after reinstalling; they contain no health documentation or user profile.
Not a Medical Device
DermScope is a documentation and measurement tool only. It does not diagnose, treat, or assess any medical condition, and this policy does not change that: no data you enter is reviewed, interpreted, or acted upon by the developer. Always consult a licensed clinician regarding any skin condition or health concern.
Children's Privacy
The developer does not knowingly collect personal or health data from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Photos, measurements, notes, and subject information remain on the device unless the user explicitly exports them.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
